2016 Volkswagen Passat: Technology Features

Volkswagen has a longstanding reputation for building cars that blend European-style refinement with superb driving performance, and one car in the Volkswagen lineup that perfectly exemplifies this is the Volkswagen Passat. Some of the strengths of the Passat include a sophisticated and quiet ride, abundant passenger and cargo space, robust engines and excellent safety scores. However, after receiving a thorough redesign for the 2016 model year with many pleasing additions, you can now also add outstanding tech features to the list.

2016 Volkswagen Passat - Technology FeaturesNew Infotainment System

One of the most impressive additions to the 2016 Passat is undoubtedly the new MIB II infotainment system. It features standard touchscreens for all Passat trims, and on most models the display utilizes a capacitive touch sensor, enabling gesture controls like swiping and pinch-zooming rather than the resistive touchscreens that require pressure and have slightly longer response times. Most MIB II units also feature a proximity sensor, which detects when a hand is nearby and automatically switches its display to allow easier selection of specific features.

Car-Net System

The MIB II system also serves as the foundation for the available Volkswagen Car-Net system, which is a comprehensive suite of connected vehicle services. VW Car-Net includes App-Connect technology, featuring the three major smartphone integration platforms—Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink. This allows seamless integration with the overwhelming majority of smartphones available today.

Safety Features

The 2016 Passat also feature new technologically advanced safety features. The standard Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, standard on all 2016 Passat models, applies the brakes after a primary collision is detected by the airbag sensors, thus helping to reduce residual kinetic energy and, in turn, reduce the chance of additional damage. Additionally, all 2016 Passat models have rearview cameras as standard equipment.

Driver Assistance Systems

Driver assistance technology introduced on the refreshed 2015 Touareg will be expanded throughout Volkswagen’s lineup, including the 2016 Passat. Depending on the trim level, Passat models come equipped with the following advanced driver assistance systems: Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning and Parking Steering Assistant.
