The 2024 Volkswagen SUV Lineup
Each year, SUVs continue to be some of the top-selling cars on the market. They have unmatched versatility, easy drivability, and ample room to carry cargo and passengers. In fact, an SUV is the perfect vehicle for comfortable driving on a family road trip or while running errands around Capistrano. The Volkswagen SUV lineup for 2024 is impressive, with improved technology, superior comfort, and sleek exterior styling. Let’s look at the range of Volkswagen SUVs hitting the streets in 2024.
2024 Volkswagen Atlas
Volkswagen’s largest SUV is the Atlas. With its spacious interior featuring much-coveted third-row seating, the 2024 model will see a significant refresh. This will include an updated exterior featuring a new grille design, C-shaped headlights, and taillights extending for the vehicle’s full width. All but the base trim level receive a sophisticated illuminated front Volkswagen logo and a light bar across the grille’s top.
Volkswagen is also updating the interior with higher-quality materials, including faux-leather upholstery wrapping around the dashboard and center console. Ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a height-adjustable passenger seat will all be standard, lending a more upscale feel. The 8-inch infotainment screen found on previous year’s models will now be a standard 12-inch screen, paired with a 10.3-inch digital gauge display.
When it comes to what’s under the hood, every Atlas will have a new 269-horsepower turbocharged 2-liter four-cylinder engine, an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive will be optional on all trim levels. The towing capacity will be an impressive 5,000 pounds, adding to its versatility.
2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport
Like its Atlas brother, the Atlas Cross Sport also receives a major overhaul with the 2024 model with all the same updates and features as the Atlas. You’ll find the main differences between the Atlas and the Atlas Cross Sport will be in their exterior stylings and interior seating configurations. The new Atlas Cross Sport has a sleek sloping roof line to create a more muscled, streamlined look. The tradeoff for this sportier look is the removal of the third-row seating, making the Atlas Cross Sport a five-passenger vehicle.
Beyond these design differences, the interior and engine of the Atlas Cross Sport are almost identical to the Atlas.
2024 Volkswagen ID.4
The Volkswagen ID.4 is a fully-electric crossover SUV that has already received a significant overhaul with its 2023 model. So we expect the 2024 model to keep most of the features first appearing in the 2023 model. These will include redesigned wheels and a gloss-black lower front grille.
The interior of the ID.4 is roomy and comfortable, capable of carrying up to five passengers. The streamlined interior relies on digital screens and voice commands rather than old-school buttons and knobs. A 12-inch touch screen and a 5.3-inch digital driver’s display are standard. The technology features in this SUV will make you feel as if you are driving a car of the future. This is especially true when you use the automated parking system to help you navigate even the tightest parking spots.
Although specifications for the 2024 model’s battery aren’t released yet, it’s safe to assume that the new battery will either match or improve upon the driving range found in the 2023 edition. The 2023 version saw the addition of a smaller 58 kWh battery pack on its base model, achieving a 208-mile driving range. The larger battery pack was 77 kWh and could travel 275 miles between charges.
2024 Volkswagen Taos
The newest edition to the Volkswagen SUV lineup is the Taos, which only made its U.S. debut last year. This compact SUV offers drivers the look and feel of an SUV while offering up the conservative fuel economy of a sedan. The exterior style of the Taos most likely won’t change much, but it’s expected to see a minor grill upgrade and redesigned headlights and taillights.
The Taos packs many features into its airy and comfortable interior for its small size. You’ll get many of the same options in the larger SUVs, including a fully digital display cluster and touch-screen infotainment system. While the 2023 models offer a 6.5-inch or 8-inch infotainment screen, some experts predict the 2024 model will receive an update. The Taos has many upgrading options, including customizable ambient lighting, an eight-way power driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
Running on a 158-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, the Taos is peppy and fuel efficient. Front- and all-wheel-drive options are available, with the front-wheel-drive versions pairing with an eight-speed automatic transmission and the all-wheel drive utilizing a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Notably, fuel economy is where the Taos shines. The front-drive Taos rates 28 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway, while the all-wheel-drive model is at 25 mpg city and 32 highway.
2024 Volkswagen Tiguan
Following the Atlas’ footsteps, the Tiguan will get a major overhaul in 2024. The Tiguan is a versatile compact SUV that even offers third-row seating, a feature that’s hard to come by in the compact market. The exterior styling of the 2024 Tiguan will leave behind the angular styling of the past in favor of curvier, smoother lines.
Inside, drivers will now get a massive tablet that will be the control center for the infotainment system. Unlike many current vehicles, the freestanding tablet will be set apart rather than integrated into the dashboard.
While the updates to the outside and inside of the Tiguan will be huge, the powertrain and drivetrain options will continue to look the same as in previous years. A 184-horsepower 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine powers the Tiguan, paired with standard front-wheel drive and eight-speed automatic transmission. An all-wheel-drive option is still available for drivers looking for more control behind the wheel.
