Adding a New Volkswagen to Your Car-Net® Account: Step-by-Step Guide and Video Tutorial

You bought a new Volkswagen with Car-Net® capability? Congrats! You can now control multiple aspects of your Volkswagen vehicle with your smartphone. However, getting it setup for the first time might be a little confusing.

Here’s how to setup Car-Net® for your new Volkswagen vehicle. We’ve included a step-by-step guide and a video tutorial below.

ENROLLMENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR NEW OWNERS

If your dealer initiated your enrollment, you’ll receive:

  • A text message with a link to accept the Terms of Service
  • An email with a link to create your Volkswagen ID password

Click on each of the above and follow the steps to accept the Terms of Service and create your password. Then: 

  1. Download the myVW app from your app store
  2. Log in with your email address and password
  3. Set up your account and preferences
  4. Your new Volkswagen should show up automatically
  5. Create a 4-digit PIN
  6. Activate Volkswagen Car-Net1 to enjoy remote features—such as remote start, remote lock/unlock and last parked location.
  7. Start enjoying myVW

If your dealer did not initiate your enrollment:

  1. Download the myVW app from your app store
  2. Click “Sign up” and enter your email address and a password
  3. Once you accept the Volkswagen ID terms, you’ll get an email with a link
  4. Click on the email link and then follow the steps to set up your account
  5. If you do not see your car in the app, enter the VIN number found on the driver’s side of the dashboard—you can see it through your windshield
  6. The app will then ask you to either scan a QR code or enter a registration number; you can find these in your vehicle’s infotainment screen; go to Menu> Settings>VW Car-Net online services> Registration
  7. Create a 4-Digit PIN
  8. Activate Volkswagen Car-Net to enjoy remote features—such as remote start, remote lock/unlock and last parked location
  9. Start enjoying myVW

Remote Commands

Remote Start the engine (if equipped), lock and unlock the doors, honk the horn, flash the lights, and more—right from the myVW app. Plus, you can sync your app with your Alexa to simply say remote commands at home. Wondering when you need to service your vehicle? Save that mental energy for other items on your to-do list. We’ll give you a heads up when it’s time to service your vehicle—making it easy for you to schedule a service appointment with your preferred dealer.

Service History

No need to hang on to those repair records. With myVW, you’ll always know what maintenance and repairs have been done on your vehicle as long as it was at a Volkswagen dealership. We automatically log every service visit for you in myVW—with dates, locations and key services performed.

Roadside Assistance Requests

We won’t leave you stuck on the side of the road. Whether you run out of gas, have a flat tire, or are faced with a dead battery, you can use myVW to request Volkswagen Roadside Assistance.  A battery jump, tire change or tow is just a few taps away.

Last Parked Location

Forgot exactly where you parked? No need to wander around the parking lot. Use your myVW app to find your car—wherever you left it. (Requires VW Car-Net activation.)

Parking Info

You can find a parking space easier with Parkopedia®. The popular off-street parking app’s information is integrated directly into your myVW app. (Requires VW Car-Net activation.)
