How Long Does It Take the ID.4 To Charge?

The exact amount of time it takes to charge your ID.4 depends on which type of charge you use. Those times are as follows:

  • Level 1 (120-volt): A Level 1 charger plugs into a household outlet and provides about two miles of charge per hour. This means it takes approximately 80 hours to charge the ID.4 fully with this base-level charger.
  • Level 2 (240-volt): Level 2 chargers provide you with about 27 miles of charge per hour, which allows you to fully charge your ID.4 in about eight to 12 hours.
  • Level 3: Level 3 chargers are DC fast-charging and can fully charge your ID.4 in about 40 minutes or bring your ID.4 from 10% to 80% charge in about 30 minutes. Unlike Level 1 and 2 chargers, this unit is typically only available at public charging stations.

How Much Does It Cost To Install a Level 2 Charger?

If you’d like to install a Level 2 charger in your home, expect to pay from $500 to $800 for the charging station, plus an electrician’s fee to make any necessary electrical upgrades to your home and install the unit. For example, an Electrify Home Level 2 Charger currently costs $649.00 plus tax.

What’s Required To Install a Level 2 Charger?

We recommend hiring a professional electrician to run 240 volts from your breaker panel to the desired location of your charging station. Your electrician will then use a four-strand cable and a double-pole circuit breaker to double the circuit’s voltage. This step requires proper insulation and securing of the cable. Then you can mount your charging station and attach it to the cable.
