2025 Volkswagen ID.4 Charging and Range Insights
The 2025 Volkswagen ID.4 continues to stir excitement in the electric SUV market. The new model has impressive efficiency, zippy performance, and state-of-the-art technology. On top of all that, it comes in at a great value. It’s perfect if you’re looking for an electric compact SUV as your daily driver or commuter. Let’s get into the details of what makes the 2025 ID.4 an excellent electric vehicle. We’ll look at the ID.4’s new features and pricing, its battery options and performance, and finally, its driving range and charging abilities.
What’s New for the 2025 ID.4?
All of the 2025 ID.4 models, including the entry-level Pro trim, now sport a 12.9-inch display with backlit sliders. These slick new controls make adjusting volume and climate settings a breeze, even when you’re cruising at night. There’s also a new Black Package that includes darkened exterior accents for the Pro S and Pro S Plus models. When you upgrade to the higher trims, the familiar luxuries that Volkswagen is known for are still available, including ventilated front seats, different styling options, and a Harman Kardon sound system.
Volkswagen continues to emphasize value with the ID.4. The entry price for the Pro trim is $45,095 for rear-wheel drive and $48,995 for all-wheel drive. The Pro model also comes with Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE driver-assistance safety suite, making every trim a safe choice. With the upgrades on the Pro S trim, which include 20-inch wheels and leatherette seats, the starting price increases to $50,195 for rear-wheel drive and $54,095 for all-wheel drive. At the top of the range, the Pro S Plus trim begins at $57,295 and is only available with an all-wheel-drive powertrain.
The 2025 ID.4’s Battery Options
The 2025 ID.4 offers two different battery options: a 62 kWh battery and an 82 kWh battery. The 62 kWh battery comes standard and provides a decent range at a lower cost. Choosing the 82 kWh will give you more range and power, but it’ll cost extra. Each option offers different levels of performance, range, and charging speed. No matter which one you choose, though, you’ll end up with a capable vehicle.
Performance and Power
The base level 62 kWh battery is plenty quick and powerful for everyday driving. It can output 201 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque. With that combination, you’ll be able to get up to speed easily.
If you choose the 82 kWh battery with rear-wheel drive, you’ll get 282 horsepower and 402 lb-ft of torque. These specs put the ID.4 right in the mix with other popular electric SUVs.
If you want to get the most zip from your 2025 ID.4 experience, there’s the option for dual-motor all-wheel drive with the 82 kWh battery. This setup produces 335 horsepower and gives an even snappier response. This combo lets the ID.4 sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds — quick enough to merge onto a busy highway without breaking a sweat. With all-wheel drive, you also get improved handling on slick roads.
Range and Charging
When used as a daily commuter, you won’t have to worry about the Volkswagen ID.4’s range. The 62 kWh battery delivers a range of 200 miles. The configuration with the largest range is the 82 kWh battery combined with rear-wheel drive. With that setup, you’ll get 290 miles, which is plenty for your weekly driving and errands. Opting for the 82 kWh battery with all-wheel drive drops the range slightly to 260 miles.
When it comes to charging, both battery options offer different charging speeds. The 62 kWh battery can charge at 100 kW on a DC fast charger, and the 82 kWh battery increases the maximum charging rate to 200 kW. This means that the 62 kWh battery can recharge in about 40 minutes, and the 82 kWh battery will take about 25 minutes. Either choice will allow you to get a full charge while you run your errands or grab a bite to eat.
