Since the all-new 2018 Volkswagen Atlas has officially arrived to dealership lots across the country, our team here at Capistrano Volkswagen thinks it’s the perfect time to show drivers how it compares to the rest of the lineup. We’re going to bring it head-to-head with the Touareg, which is Volkswagen’s luxury SUV, to give drivers a better idea of how these two compare.

The Atlas offers more trim options as well as two engine options – 2.0L I-4 or 3.6L V-6. The Touareg has three trims and is set standard with the 3.6L V-6 engine. Both are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

One major difference that drivers will notice aside from the price is the difference in seating space. The Atlas has room for seven, whereas the Touareg has room for five. As for storage, there is 32.1 cubic feet of space behind the second row rear seat of the Touareg and 20.6 cubic feet of storage space behind the third row of the Atlas. When the rear seat is folded down in the Touareg, it reveals up to 64 cubic feet of space for extra belongings. With both the second and third row folded down in the Atlas, drivers will find more than 96 cubic feet of space.

These include: CD player, navigation system and voice recognition. Safety features in the Touareg but not in the Atlas include: parking assist, lane-departure warning and blind-spot monitoring system.
