2024 Volkswagen Tiguan: Interior and Technology

The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan is set to be the best version of the SUV yet. It features interior upgrades and technological advancements that put it ahead of the pack in its class. Let’s zoom in on the features and options available for the passenger cabin of the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan below.

A Stunningly Large and Capable Infotainment System

While journalists have only been able to catch glimpses of the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan interior so far, we’ll tell you everything we know about this grand SUV. The most notable design choice inside the cabin is the new, massive infotainment system centered on the main console. This system features a screen large enough to eliminate the need for most of the menu stacking required on smaller systems. In fact, it’s around the size of a large netbook or moderately-sized laptop screen. 

Volkswagen made the excellent choice to mount the infotainment system on the main console instead of setting it centrally or partially on the top. This change will significantly reduce the frequency of two of the most common problems infotainment systems face: overheating and the hardware degradation it causes. You’ll also find that the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning controls now line the bottom of the screen in a digital format. This is likely because the large screen would get in the way of many old-school buttons and dials common to the center of the main console. 

You can manage seat heating, music, smart device app mirroring, and a lot more through the system. And you’ll be able to customize the display’s layout to fit each driver’s desires. While the infotainment will surely connect to a premium audio system, there’s no word yet on the brand, speaker count, or whether an amplifier or subwoofer will be available. There was a surround sound setting spotted on the infotainment screen, which is certainly a sound system feature.

Exceptional Comfort and Convenience Features

The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan’s seating will be available in premium cloth or quilted leather upholstery in a stylish diamond stitching pattern. Wireless device charging will be available, but the number of pads on offer is unknown at this time. Volkswagen may also offer dual-zone climate control as standard at every trim level. You can configure the interior to seat five or seven occupants, thanks to the inclusion of expandable second-row seating. 

The Tiguan’s panoramic sunroof will allow you to fill the cabin with sunlight, starlight, and moonlight. You’ll also have front seats with ventilation systems, an interior lighting system you can customize, and a heated steering wheel with user-friendly shift paddles. While we know that Volkswagen has achieved a new level of convenience with its new digital cockpit, including enhanced driver assistance, the driver’s cluster layout and its related systems aren’t public yet.

The R-Line Trim Level Features

While Volkswagen has yet to announce the final trim level list for the 2024 Tiguan, it’s quite likely that one or more of its trim levels will include the very popular R-Line feature cluster. This set of features is sure to make every drive more comfortable, entertaining, and safer, making it more than worth the small price increase. 

The primary features of the R-Line setup include a set of ventilated leather seats, LED exterior lights, an illuminated grille, and a breathtakingly high-fidelity Fender premium sound system. And while the 2023 Tiguan R-Line trims come with a nine-speaker Fender system, Volkswagen may increase the count for the 2024 model year. 

We expect Volkswagen to include the R-Line Black trims in the 2024 Tiguan trim level lineup. The features included with the 2023 Tiguan R-Line Black versions are 19-inch alloy wheels with premium black-out paint jobs, special R-Line badges inside and out, and a special bumper setup unique to the R-Line series. The series also has special R-Line side sills painted the same color as the rest of the body. 

Since you can upgrade to 20-inch versions of the R-Line wheels for the 2023 model, you’ll likely be able to upgrade to even larger wheels with the 2024 model year. Also, you can select the Deep Black Pearl exterior paint color for the R-Line Black trims. On the inside, the R-Line Black setup comes with a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, leatherette or leather upholstery with special badging, and a driver’s seat memory system with save slots for three different settings. 

The most remarkable interior feature of the R-Line trim levels is a beautiful 30-color LED ambient cabin illumination system. You can customize this system’s lighting sequence and patterns to an impressive degree and even put on spectacular light shows in certain driving modes. For instance, it shifts to red light patterns for the Sport, blue for the Eco, and white light for the Normal mode.

The Volkswagen Car-Net Feature Cluster

The famed Volkswagen Car-Net features will almost certainly carry over to the 2024 Tiguan. They include remote engine start and stop, door and hatch lock and unlock, exterior light activation and deactivation, and a panic alarm button, all done via the smart device app. The Car-Net system also allows owners to keep tabs on their Tiguan. 

Moreover, Car-Net can set custom boundaries, max speeds, curfew times, and valet alerts. The remote start and stop feature doesn’t function when the Tiguan is in motion, but it will shut the vehicle down if you press the button when it’s not moving. And while the boundary feature sends notifications about speed limit violations, it won’t stop the vehicle at the boundaries. Also, the speed restriction feature won’t lock the speed to the maximum the owner sets but will notify the driver if they exceed the preset speed limit. 

Because these limitations were all added to keep you and your passengers safe, you shouldn’t view them as downsides. Stopping a vehicle abruptly and regardless of surrounding conditions, would be unsafe, while hard speed limit blocks could prevent a driver from avoiding an accident by increasing speed.
