The 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan was brilliant. Editorials across the internet from places like Edmunds, Cars, and Kelley Blue Book, all praised it as one of the best crossover SUVs of the year. So now that the new Tiguan model is out, how does it compare?
Let’s compare the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan S and the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan S.

The original Car-Net® was good, but had a few issues. The biggest of which being its limited availability. Only a few models had it, and usually at higher trim levels. It had some basic features like locating your car in a parking lot or locking/unlocking it, but it wasn’t quite the comprehensive suite of information and integration we knew it could be.
Luckily, Volkswagen thought so too. For the 2020 model year, almost all of the Volkswagen lineup has the newly-reworked version of Car-Net®. The new Car-Net® does all the stuff that the original one did with some marked improvements. One of our favorites is the brand new DriveView™, which gives you feedback on driving habits like hard braking, acceleration rates, and day/night driving. That feedback is compiled into a score which can be sent to your insurance company for potential discounts.
You and your passengers can all stay connected with integrated 4G WiFi hotpost. Right now, Verizon is the only provider. Existing customers can add their 2020 Tiguan onto their plan (if compatible). Otherwise, a no-commitment, $20 monthly plan is available for everyone else. Other providers will be available in the future.
The 2019 Driver’s Assistance Package, which included blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, are standard on the 2020 base model, unlike with the 2019 base model. These are added on top of the already comprehensive list of standard safety features.
