SUVs are great. They have all sorts of space and can handle rough conditions quite well. One of the best ways to make an SUV even better is to give it three rows. Luckily, there are a few auto manufacturers that agree with that idea. Let’s take a look at some of them.
Today we’re comparing two excellent three-row SUV options: the 2019 Volkswagen Atlas SE AWD and the 2019 Honda Pilot EX-L AWD. Which will come out on top?

The 2019 Pilot is more than capable. It can handle most conditions well and without complaint. However, the 2019 Atlas is better. The transmission is quick and seamless, and pairs well with the capable V6. The brakes are exceptional, needing only 115 feet to panic stop from 60 mph (the Pilot takes 129 feet). The steering is just as excellent. The feedback feels light but communicates the full weight of the Atlas. In short, you know exactly what the Atlas can do by how the steering wheel feels.
The 2019 Pilot has a generous cargo space, without a doubt. It measures out to around 84 cu-ft with the second and third rows folded down. The 2019 Atlas absolutely demolishes that number. It has 20 cu-ft behind the third row. With the third row folded down, it has 55.5 cu-ft behind the second row. With both rear rows down, the cargo clocks in at an incredible 96.8 cu-ft. That’s right, more than 12 cu-ft of extra space.
