The VW Atlas three-row SUV has been a major success, with it earning numerous automotive awards and American consumers enjoying its smooth ride, spacious and comfortable interior, advanced multimedia technologies, and off-road capabilities. Recently at the New York International Auto Show, Volkswagen unveiled a pickup version of the Atlas — the VW Atlas Tanoak concept.
As of this writing, Volkswagen has no plans to release a production version of the Atlas Tanoak. However, apparently, they will gauge the consumer interest in it and if the demand is high enough, may reconsider, especially given the popularity of pickup trucks in the United States.

Design Features of VW Atlas Tanoak
While the Atlas Tanoak is based off the same MEB platform, has the same wheelbase, and shares many of the same design features as the production Atlas SUV, there are some notable differences. It is 214.1 inches long (15.8 inches longer than the Atlas SUV), which places it at a length for the full-size pickup truck segment. Also, it has a ground clearance that is 9.8 inches (2 inches higher than the Atlas SUV), giving it better visibility and greater capabilities for traversing rugged terrain.

The front end of the Atlas Tanoak has a more rugged design, while the entire grille has LED lighting. Additional exterior highlights include the wheel arch extensions, high-gloss 20-inch wheels, and flared rear fenders. The pickup bed of the Atlas Tanoak has a length of 64.1 inches, and when the low-hinged tailgate is opened, it extends to 90.2 inches. Also, with the mounted rail in the pickup bed, you can easily carry such things as a ladder or a kayak.
