2017 VW Golf Alltrack: Release Date and Off-Road Features
If you desire the versatility, space and sporty driving experience of the Volkswagen Golf SportWagen, with the added ability to head off-road, then you’ll find the 2017 VW Golf Alltrack an appealing choice. With the all-new Alltrack, Volkswagen builds on the success of the SportWagen with a model that provides all-wheel-drive and impressive off-road capabilities. If you’re wondering what is the release date of the 2017 Golf Alltrack, continue reading.
Impressive Off-Road Performance of the Golf Alltrack
The Golf Alltrack is powered by a robust EA888 1.8-liter, four-cylinder TSI gasoline unit that puts out 170 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque. At launch it will be mated to a six-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission. A six-speed manual transmission will be available at a later date. Its off-road terrain-conquering 4MOTION all-wheel drive system uses the latest generation Haldex-5 coupling, activated via an electro-hydraulic oil pump. In normal driving, the Alltrack acts like a front-wheel-drive car for better fuel economy, but as soon as the system detects wheel slip, up to 50 percent of the drive torque can be shipped to the rear wheels for better traction.
Golf Alltrack Drive Mode Selector
The off-road performance of the new Alltrack is also aided by a Drive Mode selector that includes “Off-Road Mode,” which adds hill descent control and optimizes traction control for off-road terrain. The Off-Road HMI displays compass, steering angle and altitude when driving off-road. Additionally, the Golf Alltrack features nearly an inch higher ground clearance over the SportWagen.
