2021 Atlas Basecamp Package: What Does It Add?
Volkswagen has a lot of different options and packages to choose from, like the Technology package or the R-Line package. Each one focuses on a particular aspect of the vehicle and seeks to improve it in some way. This approach allows for a lot of customizability. It also lets those that don’t want to pay for extra features they won’t use opt out.
With the 2021 Atlas, Volkswagen has added an all-new package: Basecamp. What is it and what features does it include?
2021 Atlas Basecamp Off-Road Package Details
The Basecamp package for the 2021 Atlas is based off of that sweet Atlas Basecamp concept vehicle produced back in 2019. The Basecamp package lends more functionality and style to the 2021 Atlas. Include with it are a bumper guard, large fender flares, silver rocker panels, and a silver rear valence. Available alongside the Basecamp package are special 17-inch fifteen52 wheels and all-terrain tires for extra off-road capability and a more rugged look. The Basecamp package is modular, so each part can be added individually, including the wheels and tires. However, the Basecamp badging is exclusive to the full package. The Basecamp package is available on all trims and powertrain variants, excluding models with the R-Line package already equipped.
Available Powertrain Options
When it comes to off-roading, performance specs matter. The 2021 Atlas comes with either a 2.0-liter turbo-four or a 3.6-liter V6. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder puts out 235 horses and 258 lb-ft of torque, while the 3.6-liter V6 produces 276 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. For the first time AWD is now available on the turbo-four; in the past AWD was exclusive to V6 models. For the 2021 model year, FWD is standard on most models, with AWD available on all.
