Volkswagen has a legacy of racing success, especially in the World Rally Championship, with four Constructors’ Championships and four Drivers’ Championships. Now, Volkswagen is taking its advancements in electric vehicle technology to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with the all-electric VW I.D. R Pikes Peak all-electric prototype racing car.

Volkswagen recently unveiled both the name and drawings for the I.D. R Pikes Peak race car. Paving the way for Volkswagen’s electro-mobility strategy, the I.D. R Pikes Peak race car shows the motorsports potential of the groundbreaking Electric Vehicle Module (MEB) powertrain.

Volkswagen and the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb
The last time that Volkswagen had a race car in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb was in 1987 with the dual-engine VW Golf. For this year’s race, the VW I.D. R Pikes Peak will go on a 12.4-mile route that starts at just above 9,000 feet and climbs to the summit at 14,115 feet above sea level. The I.D R Pikes Peak is the latest addition the growing family of all-electric Volkswagen I.D. vehicles, which includes the I.D. Buzz minibus, the I.D. CROZZ crossover, the I.D. sedan, and the fully autonomous I.D. VIZZION.
