While the Volkswagen Golf family may seem large, it even bigger overseas. Volkswagen only offers a number models of the Volkswagen Golf in America, but in 2016 that number’s going to get bigger. Recently, VW has confirmed that it is bringing the Volkswagen Golf SportWagen Alltrack to America.
Sportwagen Alltrack system
The vehicle was revealed last year at the Paris Auto Show. The Golf SportWagen is designed to combat more spacious hatchbacks such as the Volvo Cross Country or the Subaru Outback. As such, the SportWagen offers more space than the standard 2015 Volkswagen Golf in addition to a higher ride height, lower body covering and a new front bumper. The SportWagen also features an upgraded cabin for additional interior comfort.
What really sets the Sportwagen apart is its inclusion of 4Motion all-wheel drive. Previously, this technology was only available on the Golf-R. With the 4Motion all-wheel drive, the system sends power to the front wheels when driving in normal conditions, but can also divert up to 50 percent to the back when the roads are slippery.
Volkswagen hasn’t announced what kind of engine and transmission combination we’ll be seeing in the SportWagen due to arrive in America in 2016.
The Sportwagen in Europe
If the European model is anything to go off of, we can expect a decent variety. In Europe, the SportWagen Alltrack is available in four versions: a gasoline-burning turbo engine with 178 horsepower and three different diesel engines ranging in output from 109 horsepower to 182.
The introduction of the 2016 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen Alltrack means more space for families or weekend warriors with the same stylish look and affordability associated with the Volkswagen Golf.
While Volkswagen hasn’t given an exact US release date for the SportWagen Alltrack, it has been confirmed for some time in 2016. Until then, take a look at our available inventory.
