The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas is a great choice for families not only because of its spacious and versatile interior and plethora of multimedia features, but also because of its high-level safety. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently gave the all-new Atlas a top 5-star overall safety rating.
VW Atlas and NHTSA 5-Star Safety Rating
In order to receive the 5-star safety rating, the Atlas was put through a rigorous array crash tests, including front, side, and rollover crashes. The rating results are relayed to consumers using an easily recognizable star rating system from one to five, with five being the best a vehicle can achieve. The 2018 Atlas joins the Golf family as well as the Jetta, Jetta GLI and Passat as 2018 Volkswagen models that have an overall 5-Star Rating.

This includes six airbags (driver, passenger, driver and passenger side, and full-length curtain), as well as the standard Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, which applies the brakes when a primary collision is detected by the airbag sensors, helping to reduce additional damage. The new Atlas also offers many available driver assistance systems, including Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, front and rear Park Distance Control with Maneuver Braking, Parking Steering Assistant, High Beam Control and Overhead View Camera.
