In addition to its impressive driving characteristics and spacious and versatile interior, the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas delivers high-level safety. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) just announced that the all-new Atlas received a 2017 TOP SAFETY PICK rating, when equipped with available Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking.
2018 VW Atlas and IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK Award Criteria
In order to get the TOP SAFETY PICK Award, the Atlas was put through a multitude of crash tests, receiving at least a “Good” rating in five categories: frontal impact moderate overlap, frontal impact small overlap, side impact, roof strength and head restraints. The TOP SAFETY PICK rating also requires that a vehicle offers an autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system that earns at least an advanced rating for front crash prevention. The 2018 Atlas earned a “Superior” rating on the AEB test.

2018 VW Atlas Automatic Post Collision Braking System
A contributor to the high-level safety of the 2018 VW Atlas is its Automatic Post Collision Braking system. It’s the only vehicle in its class to offer this feature. The system applies the brakes when a primary collision is detected by the airbag sensors, thus helping reduce residual kinetic energy and, in turn, the chance of additional damage. In addition to the Automatic Post Collision Braking system, other driver assistance features available in the 2018 Atlas include Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, front and rear Park Distance Control, Parking Steering Assistant, High Beam Control and Overhead View Camera.
