Atlas vs Atlas Cross Sport: The Differences
If you’re here, chances are you’re wondering what the difference between the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas and the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is. So, what’s the deal? Is the Atlas Cross Sport a performance version of the Atlas, like the Jetta GLI is to the Jetta? Are they totally different vehicles, sharing a similar name by coincidence?
How are the Atlas and the Atlas Cross Sport different?
The 2020 Volkswagen Atlas is a three-row midsize SUV with standard FWD. The AWD Atlas has three-row availability. The 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is a two-row crossover SUV, without a third-row option. The Atlas Cross Sport is also 2.8 inches shorter and sits 2.3 inches lower than the its bigger Atlas sibling. These changes give the Atlas Cross Sport a lower center of gravity, giving it sportier and more responsive handling compared to the Atlas. Despite the difference, the Atlas Cross Sport still has excellent storage capacity, clocking in at 77.8 cu-ft of space with the second row of seats down. Naturally, if cargo space is important to you, the Atlas still has more space. Its cargo bay measures in a 96.8 cu-ft with both rear rows folded down.
