New 2020 Atlas Cross Sport Details Revealed
The Volkswagen Atlas is an industry leader in the SUV market. With fantastic performance, generous cargo space, and spacious three-row seating, its no wonder that people look to it as something that sets the bar.
However, if you follow Volkswagen at all, then you’ll know that they like to do performance and racing variants of their vehicles. With custom off-road versions of the Atlas showing up at SEMA 2018 and 2019, enthusiasts have been anticipating a sort of R-Line version of the Atlas. Volkswagen did us one better.
Here are the 2020 Atlas Cross Sport details.
Improved Driver Assist Features
The Atlas has always had an extensive list of driver aids. But that wasn’t enough for Volkswagen. The 2020 Atlas Cross Sport will have Traffic Jam Assist, which will automate low-speed stop-and-go situations up to 37mph. Dynamic Road Sign Display is also new, which works with the integrated nav system to display key things like speed limits. Volkswagen has expanded standard driver assists to include forward collision warning with autonomous braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Atlas Cross Sport will also have Car-Net 2.0, which includes an in-vehicle WiFi hotspot as well as unrivaled smartphone integration.
Seating Capacity Changes
Bigger isn’t always better. That mentality is what produced the crossover in the first place. With more emphasis placed on performance than the regular Atlas, the Atlas Cross Sport cuts out the third row and pairs down the dimensions a little. However, both the 276-horsepower naturally-aspirated VR6 engine and the 235-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine will be available. By cutting out the third row of seats and changing the body shape to be more aerodynamic, the performance increase is significant.
