The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recognized the Tiguan’s safety excellence when they recently gave it their Top Safety Pick rating.

Crash Test Dummy Inside 2018 VW TiguanThe 2018 Tiguan earned the Top Safety Pick rating by undergoing a series of vigorous crash tests. This includes tests for head restraints, roof strength, side impact and two tests for frontal impact. IIHS requires that vehicles achieve at least a “Good” rating for these tests. Also, for the Top Safety Pick rating, the vehicle must get at least an “Advanced” Rating for the autonomous emergency braking system. The Tiguan did one better with a “Superior” rating.

Safety Features in the 2018 VW Tiguan

With the 2018 Tiguan, Volkswagen embedded it with numerous preventative and protective safety features. Safety starts with the foundation of its rigid and durable bodyshell, which has a crash-optimized front end to lessen the blow of head-on collisions. The advanced airbag system includes Side Curtain Protection head airbags, as well as front and side-thorax airbags. The Tiguan comes standard with many electric safety features, including Electronic Stability Control, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Anti-Slip Regulation and Intelligent Crash Response System.

Safety in the 2018 Tiguan is furthered by its Automatic Post-Collision Braking System. The system — which is the only one offered in the compact SUV segment — automatically applies the brakes when a collision is detected, helping to reduce the impact of additional damage to the vehicle and harm to the passengers. The 2018 Tiguan also offers many driving assistance technologies, including a standard rearview camera and available Forward Collision Warning and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert.
