2017 Volkswagen Get Involved “Summer of Service” Volunteer Work
In addition to producing innovative and high-quality cars, Volkswagen places a high priority on giving back to the community. For the recent Get Involved “Summer of Service,” hundreds of Volkswagen Group of America (VWGoA) employees volunteered their time and energy to help many worthy charitable organizations and projects, while making a positive difference in their local communities.
What is VW Get Involved Summer of Service?
Held during the Summer of 2017, Get Involved Summer of Service was a major effort by Volkswagen to encourage and support their employees to do volunteer work in their local communities. The Summer of Service follows successful service events in the two preceding years — Get Involved Week in 2015 and Get Involved Month in 2016. As more Volkswagen employees expressed a desire to volunteer, Volkswagen expanded it to a summer-long event.
Variety of Community Projects for Get Involved Summer of Service
Get Involved Summer of Service supported a wide variety of projects and organizations. This included packing meals for impoverished schoolchildren for Generosity Feeds, preparing and serving meals for Bessie’s Table, volunteering at the Gleaners Community Food Bank Distribution Center, and at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, hosting a Casino Night fundraiser at the VWGoA headquarters.
