Started in 1970, Earth Day has since become an annual celebration of the outdoors, recycling and restoration. In the San Juan Capistrano area, there are a number of ways you can celebrate Earth day and we’ve put together a list of the top events here! You can always take a hike or pick up trash in your neighborhood too as a way to become more connected with Earth.

Earth Day at the Ecology Center
Join hundreds of families in the San Juan Capistrano area in celebrating Earth Day at The Ecology Center. While at The Economy Center, you can the family can learn how to grow food, make eco-friendly crafts, enjoy live entertainment and eat wholesome foods together.
Schedule of Events:
- 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. – Backyard Composting
- 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Live Music by Wreck n Sow
- 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. – Organic Container Gardening
- 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. – Quick Pickling
- 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. – Live Music by Trevor Greene
Ocean Institute Earth Day Event
The Ocean Institute is hosting Earth Day events for all ages. From 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., attendees can Paint the Earth Day by tie-dying a reusable shopping bag. Those early risers can participate in a Beach Clean-Up starting at 8:30 a.m. and also receive half-price admission to the Ocean Institute for the day. [/bscolumns][bscolumns class=”one_half_last”]
Bolsa Chica Conservancy Earth Day Festival
You and your family can celebrate Earth Day getting in touch with the things that fill it. From 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, visitors to the Bolsa Chica Conservancy can touch live snakes, count the migrating birds, test water and learn about pollution. There will also be other educational booths onsite as well as a jump tent, food and guided tours of the reserve.
Pretend City Earth Day Activities
Pretend City is a great place for kids to learn while having fun and this Saturday, to celebrate Earth Day, the museum is hosting a few different morning activities. Kids can help build a Smart Art Recycle City using household products, take part in Sensational Storytime about compost, experiment with seeds at the Science for the Senses stations and construct their own perception of Earth in the Art Studio.
