Purple Wednesday - What is that?! Read an important note from our Owner, Miles Brandon, below.
Purple Wednesday Free Car Washes continue through February 8, 2017!
Since I acquired Capistrano Volkswagen 20 years ago, we have set out to build a store that is both great to work at and do business with. One of the fun things we did, starting in 1998, was require that all employees wear purple every Wednesday. Why? Well, purple’s my favorite color (I painted my first car purple back in the late ‘60s; it had pedals and Flower Power decals!) In 2011 we decided to invite our customers to join the fun. For a month, and then, the rest of the year, we offered free car washes if you wore purple. Then we continued it to 2012, 2013 and 2014. Over the years, it got so popular we expanded to two days per week – with the creation of “Logo Tuesdays”. In 2015 we came up against a big issue: The Drought. With the state’s requirement to dramatically reduce water usage, we cut back the free car washes to the original Purple Wednesday only, while we took many other measures to do our share in saving water with the launch of our multi-faceted “Dirty & Proud” campaign.
Late 2015 until today, Purple Wednesdays have gotten busier and busier after the launch of Capistrano Mazda. Although we have never advertised Purple Wednesday on the Mazda side of our campus (we do some other things there), we never turn away any Mazda or other brand; if you wear purple, we wash your car!Along the way there have been some challenges. Sometimes our service customers have had to wait a bit longer to pick up their cars on Wednesdays as many of our staff is assigned to car wash duty. And then there have been the frustrated customers who spot another customer getting a free car wash who doesn’t appear to be wearing any purple (and, no, we never have done an underwear inspection; that form of purple has supposedly been worn on many occasions!) But, every step of the way, it’s been fun. Coming to work on a Wednesday feel like a party!
Since inception, we have provided almost 50,000 free car washes (yes, you read that right - 50,000)! That’s almost a half million dollars in free services provided! However, now we face our biggest obstacle to Purple Wednesday yet. Mid February, or sometime very soon thereafter, our original VW (and now Mazda) showroom will be demolished and a new 2-story Mazda Retail Evolution facility will take its place, opening later this year. During construction, we will offer valet customer parking in front of the VW showroom and all of our combined operations will shift quite a bit south towards the VW end of the campus. As a result, it will no longer be feasible, or safe, to bring the additional volume of cars onto the lot on Wednesdays.
Mark your calendars:
Wednesday February 8th will be our last Purple Wednesday Car Wash for 2017. We will strive to do it right by setting an all-time record of 173 car washes that day.
We will have Pink Ribbon’s Kronuts in the morning, a pizza party during the lunch hour and an ice cream social in the afternoon. We feel bad.
Even though we never imagined back in 2011 that free car washes would continue for almost 6 years and we never made any “forever” promises, we know there are a lot of customers that will feel like we’ve let them down. To help ease the pain, we are going to make several offers to you, good through the balance of 2017 with a letter.
Visit our Purple Wednesday on either 2/1/17 or 2/8/17 to receive your copy of the letter.
And don’t forget free lunch on us on February 8th! Still hungry? Come back the following week on February 15th for our groundbreaking celebration and enjoy lunch on us, as Sol Agave will be here with their awesome taco truck from 11:30am to 1:30pm! Thank you so much for your understanding and for being a part of the Capo Volkswagen Mazda family! Miles Brandon, OwnerEmail: firstname.lastname@example.orgDirect: 949 234 4204
